Club Competition Night - Macro/Close up

Club competitions are held each month with an intention to help encourage, support and growth our members photography skills and talents.
Club compeition nights are always keenly attended and give us an opportunity to view each others work across the grades held within the club, and to hear feedback from independant judges.

The monthly competitions run from March to December, with images for each month’s competition due on competition night the previous month. Points from the March to November competitions accumulate to decide the winner for the year in each grade, and progression from one grade to the next.

Images can be submitted as either print or digital, and entered as either Set Subject or Open. The monthly topics for the Set Subject category are listed below; images submitted as Set Subject must meet the brief for the month’s topic. Any image may be entered as Open. The set subjects often challenge us to try something new, so are worth more points towards your total for the year.

Each club member may submit a maximum of TWO images each month, except for the December competition, which runs a little differently. These can be your choice of two Set Subject, two Open, or one Set Subject and one Open.

Gear to bring: Your camera, tripod, any of your own portable ‘fun’ lights think pois, light sticks, glow sticks, torches and a playful attitude! Warm gear is likely to be a MUST given the time of year and we anticipate working later into the evening.

Palmy After Dark

We have held this event in the past and its been a great success. A good chance for inexperienced photographers to pair up with more experienced.

Meeting spot: Outside the Library on the square side.
Time: 7:30 pm
What to bring: Camera, tripod (if you have spare and willing to loan out please bring along for the ones that dont have a tripod), MEMORY CARD, full battery and warm clothes.

We will let you know if the weather is too trash to go ahead with the event but light rain will not stop us and in fact adds some great mood, reflections and lighting to shots.

We will split you into groups and you be given a scavenger hunt list of items to photograph. After the event we would love to see some of the images you captured here in this group.

This is a great social time and a good way to practice low light photography. Palmy has some great photography opportunities and is especially good after dark.

Club Practical Day Trip - Paloma Gardens

Paloma Gardens are located between Bulls and Whanganui in the country side. There is sooooo much to photograph that you can spend hours getting lost here.

Whatever the whether the gardens offer sheltered spots and places undercover where you can continue to photograph.

There is a garden entry fee of $10 payable on the day in CASH at the honesty box near the toilet by the carpark

Clive and his wife have worked on this property developing it to what is now an amazing location. There are glass houses., motorbike collection, ponds, an old boat on the top of a hill, exotic plants, bamboo walkways, pottery, statues…. the list goes on

Suitable footwear and clothing is needed as there are steps, winding paths and wood bridges that can get slippery.

There is no coffee or food nearby so we suggest you bring a thermos and lunch. Its also about an hours drive so we will be organising carpooling from Palmerston North.
