Portrait Workshop

There’s still enough time for you to “plug-in” to “Working the Light” - the Central Regional Convention being staged this year in the sublimely photogenic environment of the Chalet on Centennial Lagoon and Caccia Birch Homestead in the hub of the North Island - Palmerston North, over the weekend 19 - 21 September, 2008.

There will be four different workshops to chose from. The four workshops run concurrently on Saturday and repeated on Sunday. This gives you the chance to select 2 workshops which are important to you to attend. Check out the downloadable PDF "Workshop, Fieldtrip & Venue Info". This will help you to decide what workshop or field trip to book. However some workshops have limited places and will be allocated according to early registrations.
Some of the workshops will be presented at Cassia Birch an original Palmerston North homestead with plenty of history. A beautifully restored home with park like gardens. Lots of photo opportunities. It is a five minute walk between the Chalet and Cassia Birch, just over the lagoon bridge and thought the beautiful spring garden of Cassia Birch.

We have made a goal of making this convention one you will find easy to attend; one that gives more value, more learning and more fun than ever before. We are totally confident you will find it to be one of the best ever! For starters we have assembled workshops lead by some of the most engaging and knowledgeable presenters.

Shelley Amerio-Higgins, Paul Gummer, Hans Weichselbaum and Pete McGregor have established themselves as quiet, but very high achievers in their chosen areas of photographic excellence. Each is with us to share both their craft and passion, each one of them certain to influence your future image-creating development, in the most positive way.

Two optional Field trips are scheduled, to the Sakura (Japanese Cherry Blossom) Festival, and to the geophysically unique Pohangina Valley. Both tours are escorted by local hosts and each promises abundant photo opportunities.

In another amazing coup we have managed (but only after lengthy, sometimes extremely colourful negotiation) to entice from semi-retirement in a far-distant land, one of the absolute and all-time international legends of photography. This guest luminary will be present with us at the Saturday Dinner function. You are sure to be both captivated and mesmerised by our illustrious guest photographer, and the colour that session will bring forth. (For those who wish to indulge in guesses, no, it’s not Joe Sing. Neither is it Peter Bush. Nor Anthony Armstrong-Jones. Our guest is someone very, very special!)

We have worked hard to keep costs well and truly constrained, and this, along with very reasonable access, great accommodation, and good food all combine to make this gathering a remarkable smorgasbord of photographic learning and socialising opportunities; so good in fact that we advise anyone interested in being there to book early. Seats for some workshops are limited in order to deliver high quality learning experiences.

Add in to the mix spot prizes and other exciting opportunities and you have the recipe for an abundantly enjoyable weekend. Registration and all the information you might need are available on the top of this page dowenloadable in PDF format.
